FOCUS Comes to Bridgeport!

The Fellowship of Orthodox Christians United to Serve (FOCUS)

FOCUS is united in faith and joined by a desire to provide solutions to poverty in communities across America. Our ministries seek to address the ultimate cause of poverty in the world: disconnection. With your support, we work to address this need by providing people with opportunities to discover their connections with Christ and each other through meaningful service.

As an expression of Christ’s love, FOCUS exists to serve the poor by bringing together Orthodox Christian churches and community partners to provide Food, Occupation, Clothing, Understanding, and Shelter and other assistance to address the needs of local communities. We envision a world where everyone experiences and shares the transformative love of Christ. Who and how we serve is at the HEART of all we do:
 
  • Hospitality: Just as Abraham offered hospitality to strangers, we welcome all who come to us with open arms.
  • Excellence: As a ministry serving in the Lord’s name, “good enough” is never enough for us. We pursue excellence in every action and task, knowing that our work honors God and serves others with the highest quality and care.
  • Authenticity: Through our service to others, we seek to become fully who God uniquely created each of us to be, living out the beauty of being made in His image and likeness.
  • Relationship: Our work can only be accomplished through cultivating meaningful relationships with one another, creating community grounded in faith, hope, and love. In coming face-to-face with each other, we come face-to-face with God through his living icons. 
  • Transparency: Our commitment to openness goes far beyond finances; with open hearts, we embrace transparency, allowing God’s light and truth to shine brightly through our work and into the world.
 
FOCUS continue to lay the groundwork for a new, pan-Orthodox ministry in Bridgeport Once it's formally established, FOCUS Bridgeport will join 11 other FOCUS Centers in bringing together Orthodox Christians to see and serve Christ in our neighbor, together.
 
FOCUS Bridgeport will partner with a local school to offer a sit-down meal and other related services (beginning monthly, ultimately weekly). 
 
As FOCUS continues to grow, we hope to add additional sites as we continue to unite Orthodox Christians in service across Connecticut. 
 
To make this dream a reality, we must meet a $45,000 matching grant goal by the end of August, which will allow us to hire a Center Director and begin operations. To date, we've raised $22,783.75 towards our goal. We're almost halfway way there!
